Day by Day Itinerary
This luxury cruise and land adventure begins in Croatia’s capital city of Zagreb, with an elegant air many have compared to Budapest and Vienna. It has a mix of old and new, with its centuries-old walled historic center filled with Austro-Hungarian architecture, along with pedestrian friendly streets lined with museums, art galleries and outdoor cafes. Our guide will point out the best places to stroll, and we recommend that you ride the funicular to the medieval area, Gornji Grad, home to one of Zagreb’s highlights, St. Mark’s Church with its colorful tiled roof. Afterward, sample some of the local brews on Tkalciceva Street.
PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK
Your journey continues with a drive to Plitvice Lakes National Park, regularly named among the world’s most scenic places with its crystal-clear emerald and aquamarine lakes highlighted by countless waterfalls and lush greenery. Discover them with a walk along the trails, take an electric boat ride across the water and finish your time here with a panoramic train ride. This is the perfect time to feed the appetite you’re sure to have by now at one of the local traditional restaurants where boar, venison and rabbit are frequently featured on the menu.
Your next destination is the coastal city of Split, best known for its maze-like 4th-century Diocletian’s Palace, built as the retirement residence for Emperor Diocletian. Enjoy time on your own to wander through the historic inner city with its Gothic palaces, Roman temples and Mediterranean-style stone homes. Fans of “Game of Thrones” will want to have a look at the underground cellars which served as the place where Daenerys trained her dragons. There are plenty of fantastic restaurants and cafes to enjoy along with unique boutiques selling Croatian coral, along the cobbled streets and Riva seaside promenade. For one of the best panoramic vistas in the city, climb up nearby Marjan Hill just before sunset.
PRIVATE DAY TRIP TO BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA
Today you’ll get an introduction to Croatia’s next-door neighbor, Bosnia & Herzegovina. You’ll notice the influence from its time under Ottoman rule, with the architecture significantly different from other European countries. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Počitel village, set along the Neretva river and visit the pilgrimage site of Medjugorj, which is famous for its alleged apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Enjoy a pick-me-up in Mostar by sipping Turkish-style coffee called kahva and be sure to try some of the sweet rahat lokum (Turkish delight) in the old bazaar. If you have room, sample the street foods and then take in a panoramic view from the top of the mosque’s minaret.
Join us onboard anytime from 1pm on for the cruising portion of your tour, with your luxury ship waiting in Split Harbour. If you’d like you can drop off your bags and enjoy more of the city or relax and take advantage of the vessel’s many facilities, perhaps lounging on the sundeck. You’ll want to return in time for the 7pm Welcome Reception that brings introductions to the captain and crew along with more details about your cruise followed by the captain’s delicious dinner. You’ll have plenty of time to mingle and get to know your fell passengers too.
Your day begins with a guided tour of Split’s Old Town which will take you through the intriguing narrow streets and alleyways of the UNESCO-listed palace and more. Next, we’ll begin cruising with our first stop. Trogir, a living town museum with its entire historic walled city a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Looking forward to an inspiration tour of its fascinating mix of Renaissance, Baroque and Romanesque architecture, marveling at the traditional stone homes, medieval towers, monasteries and churches, including the renowned Cathedral of St. Lawrence and the North Gate. You’ll have time this evening to enjoy it on your own, sampling some of the enticing restaurants, bars and cafes.
BRAC - HVAR (B,L)
Our cruise will bring us sunny Hvar this afternoon, one of the most popular islands in Croatia, but first we’ll make a stop on Brac Island where you’ll have the opportunity to swim from the shores of one of the most stunning beaches in all of Europe, Zlatni Rat, a long stretch nearly surrounded by breathtaking turquoise water. Or if you prefer, you can explore the town of Bol. Once back on board, we continue our journey to Hvar enjoying views of hidden coves and sparkling bays along the way. Upon our arrival, join a wine tasting tour at a popular family-run winery in the small town of Jelsa before returning to Hvar for a guided walking tour of this beautiful Old Town.
BIŠEVO BLUE CAVE - VIS (B,L)
Our destination this evening will be the unspoiled island of Vis, but weather permitting, first you’ll be able to experience the ethereal blue glow that occurs in the world-famous Blue Cave, the result of the sun’s rays which enter the interior through a crack in the rock and reflect of the white limestone floor. If the cave can’t be accessed due to high haves, we’ll tour the pretty village of Komiza on Vis with its World War II RAF airport. Either way, Vis Town will be today’s final spot.
We journey to the charming island of Korcula today, docking near the walled Old Town. You’ll meet your guide near the steps of the entrance, who will regale you with its history while exploring the Venetian-Gothic architecture inside. Enjoy time on your own afterward to continue your explorations, which lots of enticing shops and eateries to enjoy among the impressive buildings. Take a stroll along the waterfront or cobblestone streets to discover that ideal restaurant for sampling some of the traditional cuisine.
MLJET & SLANO (B, L, T)
Continuing our journey to Mljet Island and its lush national park, you’ll have time to wander the scenic paths that wind through the forest and around emerald-hued saltwater lakes, one of which is home to a tiny island with a 12th-century Benedictine monastery. Once everyone is back on board, we’ll cruise to the traditional fishing village of Slano which lies near another fortified village, Ston. You’ll have time to check out the ramparts and defensive walls before enjoying a short walk along the coast to an oyster farm. Look forward to enjoying samples of the fresh oysters and mussels, while learning more about Ston’s famous delicacy. Tonight, the Captain’s dinner will be hosted on board, complete with live entertainment.
DUBORNVIK (B, L, CD)
The last full day of our cruise brings us to Dubrovnik by way of the enchanting Elaphiti Islands. Before anchoring, you’ll get to enjoy it from the perspective of the water as we sail around the Old City’s medieval walls. Upon our arrival, meet our local guide for a tour of the historic center, which will include those centuries-old walls and the Gothic/Renaissance/Baroque Rector’s Palace, Sponza Palace and the Pile Gate. If you’re a fan of “Game of Thrones,” you’ll notice it from the series.
DAY TRIP TO MONTENEGRO (B)
Disembarkation is this morning after breakfast, time to say farewells to the luxurious ship that brought you on this memorable journey. But it’s not over yet, you’ll get to explore Croatia’s eastern neighbor, Montenegro. Visit the city of Kotor, built between the 12th-and 14th centuries – the UNESCO-listed site is surrounded by medieval walls extending 2.5 miles to the fortress of St. Ivan. You’ll also hop on a boat for the quick ride to Perast, home to the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks which often appears in Montenegro postcards and brochures. You’ll spend your final overnight back in Dubrovnik.
Departure day has arrived. After breakfast and checkout from your hotel, you’ll be met by private transfer that will take you to Dubrovnik Airport for your flight home.
