Where did you go on holiday and how long for?

I went to Croatia on a small ship cruise in October last year. The weather was fantastic, I wasn’t sure what to expect as we were travelling in October but it was sunny and 25 degrees all week – we were swimming nearly every day!

How did you find travelling on a small ship cruise?

It was a great experience, every day you are in a new destination. The boat leaves in the morning and by lunchtime you have arrived in a new place. You are then met by a local guide who will take you to the best sights and tell you about the history of the city.

What were the people like on board?

One of the highlights for me is the feeling that you have your own exclusive ship, it is a real deluxe experience. I have travelled on other ships where they have 2,000 people on board but with a small ship cruise there are only 38 other passengers. Everyone is so friendly, and you get to know everyone personally, even the staff know you by your first name.

What type of food did you eat whilst you were there?

I ate a lot of fish like sea bass and salmon, but they also serve a variety of meat dishes as well. All the meals were homecooked and tasted delicious.

Did you do any activities whilst you were on holiday?

I went on walking tours in Dubrovnik, Split, Korcula, Vis and Hvar. I would recommend a guided tour as you learn all about the history of the city and visit the tourist sights. When I was in Dubrovnik, we were taken around the city walls and saw some amazing views from the top. We also visited some vineyards, took part in a wine tasting and visited a factory where they make olive oil – it was really interesting.

What are your top tips for anyone travelling to Croatia by cruise?

My biggest suggestion is that you wake up early and walk up to the top deck on board the ship to watch the sunrise in the morning. It’s a beautiful view, so make sure you have lots of storage on your camera to take pictures.

Would you visit Croatia again?

Absolutely. There are so many interesting things to do there and it has so much to offer. I haven’t been to the northern part of Dalmatia which I would like to travel to, especially to visit the Krka National Park.

Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I have recommended it to all my friends and my family have already booked themselves on a small ship cruise to Croatia this summer!
