Pirates of the Caribbean, AKA Pirate Night
While the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was released 20 years ago, pirates are still as popular as ever and make the perfect theme for a mega yacht party. The vessel can be decorated with items like a skull and crossbones banner, treasure and other pirate booty, parrots (the plush type of course), and all things buccaneer. The bounty of fresh seafood in Croatia is ideal when it’s time to dine and as rum is a favorite among the hooked and bearded, you can ask the expert mixologist to create some popular rum drinks.
White Party
If you’re thinking sophisticated and traditional, a white-themed party is a classic approach that also happens to be quite on-trend. Other than a white dress code, the mixologist can make snowflake martinis or pina coladas, the chef might prepare a tasty grilled white fish and you might have cake spread with white icing for dessert. Don’t forget the décor, perhaps using various shades of white to deck out the vessel and some sailor’s hats for extra pop. But skip the white balloons, while they might look amazing, they can easily end up in the water harming marine life like sea turtles.
Poker Night
How about a casino-style atmosphere for a poker night? A poker tournament can be hosted while canapes and other bite-sized hors d’oeuvres and cocktails are served. Play a soundtrack inspired by Vegas (Frank Sinatra’s ‘Luck be a Lady,’ Elvis’ ‘Viva Las Vegas,’ Katy Perry’s ‘Waking Up in Vegas,’ Sin City’ by AC/DC, etc.), decorate in Vegas-style and maybe get some chocolate gold coins. This is a great opportunity for fancy dress but that doesn’t mean attendees need to wear tuxes and ball gowns. Think feather boas, bow ties, bunny ears, costume jewelry, cigarette holders and the like.
Toga Night
Togas were traditionally worn by Roman patrician men, but they work well for a yacht theme party. The country has multiple connections to the Roman Empire including the centuries-old Diocletian’s Palace in Split which was built to serve as Roman emperor Diocletian’s retirement residence. There are places settled by Greeks too, like Stari Grad, one of the oldest settlements in Europe so could make it all about the Greek gods, like Dionysus, the god of wine. Either way, keep that red wine flowing. The Croatian island of Vis actually served as a fictional Greek setting for the film Mama Mia! Here We Go Again so you might take advantage of the ship’s cinema to show it as the perfect way to end the evening.
Swinging 60s
The 1960s are one of the most popular decades to relive on a Croatia mega yacht charter. Think Flower Power vibe with lots of love in the air that’s sure to put everyone in a good mood. The attire can be iconic hippy clothing paired with a flower-filled headband or lots of beads. You’ll want a groovy soundtrack with ‘60s tunes to dance to, like the Beatles ‘Twist and Shout,’ The Beach Boys ‘Good Vibrations,’ and ‘Wooly Bully’ by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs.’ Any authentic ‘60s theme party should have some signature dishes from the decade too, like Swedish meatballs and fondue.
Oscars Night
An Oscars Night can have many variations, but glamorous attire, fine dining and a movie night are especially suitable. Your guests can walk a red carpet while wearing their finest while the chef creates memorable dishes. Have fun with it by giving “Oscars’ for categories like best dressed, voted on by your guests on ballots you’ll hand out. Glittery stars, movie tickets, film reels and director clapboards are ideal for décor. For music, consider Oscar-winning songs like ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from 1997’s Titanic… on second thought, tunes that don’t remind us of sinking ships like ‘Over the Rainbow’ might be a better idea.
