The Top 10 Weirdest Requests Made By Cruise Passengers

As luxury cruise specialists, we get lots of different requests for things that will make our guests more comfortable. Requests that we’re more than happy to fulfil if it means that their experience will be more enjoyable. But, then there are some requests that completely blow our minds.

Asking for a morning newspaper or a 6.00 am wake-up call? Totally acceptable. Asking if you can ‘drive’ the boat and ‘park it’ upon arrival into a busy port? Not so much.

Those types of requests definitely make us smile though, so we thought it would be fun to look back over the years and find out which have been, well, the most bizarre.

10. Beard oil in their room

We know that some vacations are once-in-a-lifetime experiences, so it’s not surprising that people want to look their absolute best whilst away. That’s why we supply luxury toiletries in all of our cabins, which includes shampoo and conditioner so that people can keep their locks glossy.

But some people care for more than just the hair on top of their head, with one guest asking us to supply beard oil alongside the other complimentary lotions. Weird, but if you don’t ask, you don’t get!

9. Eggnog behind the bar - in August

It is not unusual for us to get requests from passengers to stock specific beverages behind the bar – a favourite liquor, wine or ale. But the strangest one that we have had is a request for Eggnog. Sure, this wouldn’t be weird in December but it’s a pretty unusual request for someone taking a trip in August.

But then again, who are we to judge someone’s tipple of choice? If they like it, they like it.

8. “I would like an extra cabin to use as a wardrobe.”

We’re not shy in admitting that all of our sailing destinations offer guests a wide variety of activities during their trip and so we appreciate that this means they might need to pack one or two more outfits. That’s why we’re never surprised by the size of suitcases when people board the ship.

But a whole other room, just for clothes? Yeah, that’s a little excessive!

7. “Can I park the boat when we arrive in Dubrovnik port?”

Now, first of all, we feel inclined to point out that one does not simply ‘park the boat’. All of our ships are expertly moored by no one other than the Captain – although we do sometimes let people hold the ship’s wheel if they ask politely.

A nice try though. Not only did this guest need to get a reality check, but they seriously needed to brush up on their sailing vocabulary.

6. A personalised mug in their room

Although they can be booked for single occupancy, all of our cabins are made for two people and we know that sharing a room with another does give rise for personal objects to get mixed up.

‘Who’s charger is this?’ and ‘Is that my toothbrush?’, you know what we’re talking about. Therefore, it does make sense that guests would want to keep tabs on which of the mugs you’ve been drinking from… but to ask for a personalized one to be ready and waiting in your cabin… A bit of overkill, perhaps?

5. A Japanese zen garden in their room

At Cruise Croatia, our ships are designed to provide the utmost comfort and relaxation – which is why we were particularly surprised that one guest requested that a Japanese zen garden be placed in their cabin.

You know, the sandbox with a mini bonsai tree and rake? The ornament that is supposed to bring calm and focus to its surroundings? It was hard not to let this hurt our feelings – we think our zooms are super zen – but each to their own, hey!

4. “Can we have a bathrobe party where all guests and staff have to wear a bathrobe?”

Anyone who has binged Below Deck will know that bathrobes are not an uncommon sight on a cruise ship. However, requesting that everyone else on board wears one and has a party dedicated to it? That’s pretty, erm, unusual.

And, for reference, this request was actually granted and everybody had a great time apparently.

3. A framed photo of a pet in their room

No matter how incredible a vacation is, it’s not unusual to miss loved ones back home, especially if they’re someone that you spend a lot of time with. But in one guest’s case, it wasn’t a human that they were pining for, but instead their pet.

And in order to lessen the blow of leaving it at home, they requested a framed photograph of the beloved animal to be ready and waiting for them in their cabin when they boarded the ship.

2. “Can we reenact the Black Water Bay fighting scene from Game of Thrones on board the ship?”

Dubrovnik was the filming location for King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms in the TV show Game of Thrones, so it is not unusual for guests to request tours to see the locations in real life. However, we’ve never been asked to reenact any of the scenes before – not least one of the series’ biggest fighting scenes.

Definitely up there with the most unusual requests we’ve had, especially considering that the Battle of Blackwater was filmed in Belfast…

1. For a member of the onboard staff to comb their hair

And the award for the most undeniably bizarre request we have ever had from a guest, by far, goes to… the lady who asked for a member of the onboard staff to comb her hair.

We’re not even sure where to start with this one.

Mind. Blown.
