Rovinj Small Ship Cruises
Located on the Peninsula of Istria in northern Croatia, is a small fishing port named Rovinj. Our Croatia cruises dock in Rovinj port, offering opportunities to explore the town, neighbouring regions, and dive into a wealth of excursions that, almost always, include exceptional local food and wine. This is because the whole Istrian region is renowned a culinary destination. Whether it’s a family-run café or a Michelin-starred restaurant, the food in Rovinj is divine.
Go back 250 years ago and Rovinj was actually its own island but the channel that divided the island and Istria was filled in. Now it sits on the western coast of the peninsula and makes for a great place to stop on our Croatia cruises.
This region has some iconic things to do and places to see, but Rovinj itself is a great port to explore. During the 19th century, Rovinj and the rest of the region became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As a result, there are many architectural buildings and landmarks which replicate this era. These include the Church of St. Euphemia which has similarities to St Mark’s Basilica in Venice. The Balbi Arch, the Ulica Grisia and the Old Town are also worth visiting during your stay in Rovinj.
The port still has a strong fishing culture and if you head down to the port in the early morning, you’ll see the fishermen bringing back their catches. In the evening, you can eat freshly-caught fish and seafood from any restaurant in the town.
