Fourteen years of my life were spent living the expat version of an Italian dream — six in Rome, eight tucked into Tuscany’s Chianti hills — after travel pulled me out of the Central Pennsylvania mountains where I grew up, more than 20 years ago now. While I was raising my family there, I found myself producing organic Tuscan olive oil, teaching yoga, running wellness retreats, and building custom European itineraries for clients back home in the US, from Tuscan hill towns to the Croatian coast.
That stretch of Italian expat life gave me a genuine feel for European culture, food, and wine — not the tourist version, the lived-in one — and it shapes every trip I plan, whether it’s rooted in Italy or built around Croatia’s coastline. I’m fluent in English and Italian, and I put that to use whenever it makes the experience better for a client. These days, when I’m not on the road, I’m out in Pennsylvania’s hills with my two boys and our rescued dog: mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, camping, whatever gets us outside.

What is your favorite stop on a Croatia cruise and why?
It’s tough to pick just one, however, I would say Korčula. This dreamy island remains at the top of my list, as it’s known for its crystal-clear waters, vineyards, and medieval architecture. It offers a wonderful blend of historic charm, beautiful architecture, secluded pebble coves and beaches and breathtaking sunsets. It truly captures the essence of the Dalmatian coast.
What makes a great small ship cruise experience in Croatia?
A small ship experience hinges on intimacy and access. A smaller vessel allows us to dock in smaller ports that the large cruise ships cannot reach, giving clients a more authentic local experience. Personalized service from the ship’s crew and the ability to easily mingle with fellow passengers also significantly elevate the onboard experience above travel on larger vessels.
What is your most memorable moment from a Croatia cruise?
My most memorable moments usually involve a sunset. One of the most soul-stirring sunsets I’ve experienced was sailing from Mali Ston to Dubrovnik. A Dalmatian sunset creates a magical atmosphere onboard. It’s a moment of pure awe that reinforces why we do what we do—creating unforgettable views and experiences for our travelers.
What are your top tips for a small ship cruise in Croatia?
My top tip is to pack light and focus on comfortable walking shoes—much of Croatia is made up of cobblestones, rocky beaches and uneven roads. Ensure you have enough storage for photos, as Croatia offers countless picturesque views. Consider syncing your data to a cloud service before departure. Finally, enjoy the experience of soaking in the culture and scenery.
