Croatia Yacht Tours

With so many options for sailing yachts in Croatia, our specialists will be happy to advise the perfect sailing experience for you. For example, some of our charter yachts begin in the ancient city of Split, or the historic Old Town of Dubrovnik before setting out to explore the islands. A week spent sailing the Croatian islands on a private yacht can include visiting the cosmopolitan islands of Hvar, where you might find yourself sipping cocktails at trendy beach bars, wandering the polished flagstones at the historic St. Stephen’s Square, or breathing in the sweet perfume of the lavender fields. Or you might moor your Croatia charter yachts in Korčula with its storybook walled town, complete with imposing gates, ramparts, and towers. Our skippered charters can also dock at lesser-known islands that don’t get the attention they deserve, like Solta, where you can drift through the vineyards on a wine tour or dine on fresh seafood beneath the stars, far from the crowds at the more popular destinations.. A yacht sailing vacation in Croatia is a one-of-a-kind experience, and a perfect choice for anyone wishing to explore Croatia authentically.

Understanding Today’s Luxury Yachts

A yacht is a private boat powered by sails, a motor, or both. Their design can vary significantly in both size and style, from small sailing yachts to impressive superyachts. While yacht charters may be enjoyed on either sailing or motor yachts, the latter can be recognized by its powerful motor and single hull. Designed for speed and agility, with the ability to navigate open waters, yachts don’t depend on wind conditions and are often used for more long-distance cruising with luxuries and comfort in mind. You’ll discover they typically have three decks: a lower deck, main deck, and upper deck, with plenty of room to move around in common areas and spacious individual cabins. When choosing between the two, sailing yachts can be faster in favorable wind conditions, but are typically slower than motor yachts, while providing a more casual, traditional experience.

Private Yacht Crew

To make sure you have a relaxing, luxury experience while sailing along the Croatian coast, you’ll have a helpful crew to take care of everything, from cooking and cleaning to maintenance and organising excursions. First and foremost, the skipper (captain) is the person in charge, responsible for navigating the vessel, overseeing all operations, and ensuring safety and compliance with maritime regulations.

Working away behind the scenes even before departure, the chef will be busy making preparations for the delicious meals you’ll enjoy while onboard, likely keeping in mind the best spots to pick up fresh and local ingredients along your cruise route. And you can’t forget the hostess, the head of onboard hospitality, ensuring your vacation feels effortless and worry-free.  There may be more crew members onboard to contribute, but this all depends on the size of your yacht.

Yacht Expenses

On a fully-crewed yacht charter, there is an additional cost known as the Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA). This is typically 20 to 30% of the charter fee, which includes onboard food and beverages that are customized to the preferences of guests. You’ll all be given a short form to indicate any allergies, particular dietary needs and preferences, such as vegetarian or gluten-free diets, along with specific likes and dislikes. Even preferences for certain types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages can be indicated as well. The APA also covers:

  • Fuel for the yacht, tenders, and water equipment like jet skis
  • Port and marina fees
  • Customs and local taxes
  • Crew gratuities (if not included in the contract)
  • Any additional special requests, such as excursions

At the trip’s conclusion, the captain will provide a detailed expense report, and if there are any unused funds, they will be refunded. On the other hand, if expenses exceed the APA, an additional payment may be required.

Yacht Cruise Excursions

When booking a yacht charter, you’ll be able to discuss the number and type of excursions that you and your fellow travelers would like to enjoy, with any paid excursions being deducted from the APA. Our travel specialists know Croatia like the back of their hand, and can offer personalized recommendations based on your particular interests. This can range from immersive cultural excursions, such as visiting museums with local guides who are overflowing with stories passed down through generations, wine tasting and touring traditional vineyards, to food tours that will have your tastebuds exploding with the regional dishes of peka or pasticada.

You might experience local traditions through lively folk-dance performances – the strings of the tamburica strumming a merry tune – or visit historic sites, such as the majestic Diocletian’s Palace in Split. Active adventures are often possible at sea and on land when visiting the various ports, from scuba diving in ethereal seascapes alive with marine life and echoes of deep wrecks, to exhilarating kayaking tours. Or you might enjoy hikes in Krka National Park through the sun-dappled forests along routes that lead to the seven beautiful waterfalls – some of which are harnessed to generate electricity.

Yacht Charter Croatia Frequently Asked Questions

When hiring a crewed yacht, there are typically obligatory extras, which are additional items that you’ll need to pay. They vary from yacht to yacht and usually include items like Croatia local tax and a final cleaning. You can view the specific items for all luxury yacht charters on the details page under the obligatory extras section.

There are usually optional extras that can be added to your sailing Croatia itinerary. As with the obligatory extras, these vary depending on the yacht. The individual yacht details pages will reveal which optional extras are available on your sailing yacht of choice. For example, there may be snorkels and stand-up paddleboards s available on catamaran charters, and our motor yacht charters often come with a small rigid inflatable boat to make it easy to reach shore. These fun extras will add to the excitement of exploring Croatia and the Dalmatian Coast. For more charter pricing details, don’t hesitate to talk to our travel experts.

A mooring buoy provides privacy and seclusion on all Croatia charter yachts and is estimated to be around 30 to 40 Euros per night. Mooring in a marina costs more, approximately 40 to 130 Euros per night, but they offer fresh-water refills and shore power for the sailing yacht, along with shower and toilet facilities, restaurants, and cafes. Generally, it’s best to mix up the options for a balance of both throughout the week. By exploring Croatia and overnighting in destinations around the Dalmatian Coast that are a bit further from towns and marinas, it usually makes your yacht charter in Croatia more affordable. Note that the date you’re sailing and the size of your vessel can affect the price of marinas and mooring buoys. The costs we’ve provided are estimations based on a 40-foot yacht.

A local tax will be required for every person that will be on your yacht, including the skipper and host or hostess (if applicable) which is based on the number of days that you will be traveling. It is also customary to cover the skipper’s expenses for the week such as meals, drinks, and water taxis. You’ll also need to begin your week of sailing in Croatia by stocking the vessel with food and drink. Your skipper will provide recommendations as to where to shop and the best yacht charter destinations around the area.

The weather in Croatia is typically Mediterranean, with summers warm and dry, and winters mild. It boasts one of Europe’s sunniest coastlines with around 2,600 hours of sunlight annually – and even more in the island locations, like Hvar. During the peak of summer (July and August) temperatures are typically around 30°C (86°F). This is a great time to enjoy Croatia charter yachts. In the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and October, it usually drops to around 23°C (73°-74°C F). Croatia’s prevailing winds are from the north-west, averaging wind speeds of 7 to 8 knots which increases to a comfortable Force 4-5 (10 to 20 knots) on some afternoons, providing some exhilarating fun for sailing. It’s important to check forecasts regularly when you’re sailing in Croatia to avoid being surprised by the ‘Bora,’ a fierce north easterly wind.

As our charter yachts are so well-equipped to ensure cruising in comfort, you need little more than sunblock and a beach towel. We always advise traveling light for a sailing trip, which means bringing a few bathing suits, wraps, shorts, and T-shirts for the day, and a light sweater or jacket to wear after dark. When shopping in the local towns, consider that you may need to cover up, and you’ll also need some casualwear and comfortable walking shoes for exploring when ashore. As there is limited storage for hard-shell suitcases on our yachts, please pack your belongings in only soft luggage that can be folded away. If you bring excess baggage or hard suitcases, they can’t always be left at the base, so try to pack relatively light no matter what yacht charter destinations you’re visiting. Our packing suggestions include:

  • A waterproof, lightweight jacket and non-slip shoes
  • A wide-rimmed sun hat or cap
  • Sunglasses with a neck strap
  • A beach towel
  • Gloves for anchor work
  • Travel-size liquid soap and toiletries
  • High SPF waterproof sunscreen or lotion
  • Your mobile phone and a 12v car charger
  • Scented diaper/nappy bags are helpful for toilet paper by trapping foul odours (toilet paper must never be flushed down yacht toilets)

We also recommend insect repellent, seasickness tablets, antacid or other medicines for stomach upset, and antihistamines. If you take any medication regularly, be sure to bring enough to last for at least the duration of the time you’ll be away.

Our sailing charters in Croatia usually don’t embark until 5p.m, as this allows for time in between trips for maintenance and thorough cleaning. If you arrive before that, you may be able to board in the afternoon if the yacht is ready, but that can’t be guaranteed in advance. Late arrivals can board at any time throughout the night, checking in the next morning. The yacht is required to return to the base no later than 6p.m. one day before the charter ends, and will need to be vacated by 9a.m. on your final day. If you have a return flight booked later that day, you’ll be able to leave your bags at the base to enjoy sightseeing or the beach. It may be possible to pay for an additional day’s charter if you prefer to keep the yacht until it’s time to leave for the airport.

Our luxury yachts can accommodate between 10 to 22 guests, typically in any combination of master, double, or twin cabins. This varies for each of our yachts, with the maximum number of guests typically depending on the size of the vessel and the safety regulations in place. You can speak to our Croatia travel specialists if you’d like some help finding the perfect luxury yacht for your vacation, whether it’s an intimate gathering or larger group event.
